A MacWeb alternative with the M6 available now

MacWeb rents bare metal Mac minis and Mac Studios, and it sells small Mac mini clusters. On October 2, 2026, three Mac minis could be ordered. They were an M4 at $99 a month, an M4 Pro at $249 and an M1 at $100. Its M6 plans were listed as Coming Soon, the base one at $129. MacRun has the M6 in stock today at $139 a month.

What MacWeb sells

These come from macweb.com/macmini on October 2, 2026. The plans you could add to a cart showed US West (Silicon Valley) as the data center. The home page also mentions the New York metro.

Each available plan offers monthly, quarterly or yearly renewal. The page lists a fixed IPv4 or IPv6 address, VNC and SSH access, full root access, and no contract with cancel at any time. MacWeb also sells Mac Studios and MiniCluster bundles of 4 or 10 Mac minis for AI work. We did not find a trial or an SLA on the pages we read.

West Coast or East Coast?

Location matters most for screen sharing. Every click travels to the Mac and back, so closer feels quicker. A CI runner cares much less. GitHub's docs say a self-hosted runner connects out to GitHub over HTTPS on port 443 to get its jobs. A coding agent sits in between. You check in on it now and then, so steady uptime matters more than a few milliseconds.

Who should choose MacWeb

  • Developers on the US West Coast. Silicon Valley is closer to them than New Jersey, which helps screen sharing feel quick.
  • Anyone who wants an M4 today for less. MacWeb's M4 is $99. Our M4 is a pre-order at $119.
  • People who need a fixed public IP, or 10 Gbps networking on the M4 Pro.
  • Teams that want a cluster of Macs bought as one product, or a Mac Studio.
  • Anyone happy to wait for an M6. When MacWeb's Base M6 ships at $129, it will list $10 below our M6.

Where MacRun is different

You can have an M6 now. MacRun's M6 has a 12-core CPU, 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. It is ready 1 to 4 hours after payment. The runner plan is $139 a month, and the first month is $69.

Your Mac comes ready for iOS work. Xcode 26.6 is installed and has been opened once. The iOS 26.5 simulator runtime is installed. The GitHub Actions runner software is in place, so registering a runner takes a few commands. You have administrator access for everything else.

For AI coding agents there is a separate plan at $169 a month. It includes Claude Code and Codex, a session that survives reboots, and the desktop in a browser tab. You can steer it from your phone with the Claude or ChatGPT app.

We measured the M6. A clean build of the Wikipedia iOS app took 86 seconds, against 183 seconds on a GitHub-hosted macos-26 runner. A typical CI job after a small change took 27 seconds on a warm M6.

What you get on day one

MacWeb's orderable M4 plans list macOS Tahoe and instant activation. The page lists full root access, so you install your own tools. A MacRun M6 runs macOS 27 and takes 1 to 4 hours to set up. That time goes into installing Xcode 26.6, opening it once, adding the iOS 26.5 simulator runtime and placing the GitHub Actions runner software. Your first build can start as soon as you log in. Which is better depends on whether you would rather have the Mac now or have it ready.

Wait for an M6, or rent one now?

If MacWeb's Base M6 ships at the listed $129, a year of it costs $1,548. A year of MacRun's M6, with the launch month, costs $1,598. The gap is small either way. The real question is whether you need the M6 this week. We have no ship date for MacWeb's M6, since the page said only Coming Soon.

What MacRun does not offer

  • No static IP. Access is over a private Tailscale network.
  • No West Coast location. We have one, in New Jersey.
  • No clusters sold as a bundle, and no Mac Studio.
  • No quarterly or yearly plan on the M6 launch offer.
