Rent a Mac mini
Yes, you can rent a whole Mac mini by the month and use it over the internet. MacRun rents the Apple M6 Mac mini for $139 a month, and the first month is $69. It is a physical machine for you alone, ready 1 to 4 hours after you pay. You get administrator access, and Xcode is already installed.
Who rents a Mac mini
Most people who rent a Mac mini need macOS for one job. They do not want a Mac on their desk for it. The common cases are these.
- iOS and macOS teams who want their own build machine. Hosted macOS minutes add up fast, and a dedicated Mac has no meter.
- Developers on Windows or Linux who ship an iPhone app. Flutter and React Native still need a Mac and Xcode to build for iOS.
- People who run a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex. They want it on a Mac that never sleeps and is not their laptop.
- Teams that need a Mac for a project with an end date. They rent for a few months and then stop.
What you get
A rented Mac mini from MacRun is the whole machine. Nobody else has an account on it, and it is not a virtual machine. It is wiped and reimaged before the next customer gets it.
- An Apple M6 Mac mini with a 12-core CPU, 16 GB memory and a 256 GB SSD.
- macOS 27, with sudo and Homebrew. You can install any Xcode version.
- Xcode 26.6 installed, first launch done, and the iOS 26.5 simulator runtime ready.
- The GitHub Actions runner software preinstalled. GitLab, Buildkite or Jenkins agents can be added by you over SSH.
- Wired gigabit ethernet in our private facility in New Jersey.
- Support by email at support@macrun.dev, usually answered within the hour.
Which Mac mini to rent
The M6 is in our rack today. The other tiers are built to order. Every tier is sold two ways. The runner plan is for CI. The agent plan adds Claude Code and Codex, a desktop in your browser, and a session that survives reboots.
- M6, 16 GB memory, 256 GB SSD: $139 a month as a runner or $169 as an agent Mac. In stock, ready in 1 to 4 hours. The first month is $69 or $84.
- M4, 16 GB memory, 256 GB SSD: $119 a month as a runner or $149 as an agent Mac. The previous base chip, at the lowest price. Pre-order, live in about a week. Nothing is charged until it is live.
- M5 Pro, 48 GB memory, 1 TB SSD: $269 a month as a runner or $299 as an agent Mac. For agents that also run open models locally. Pre-order, live in about a week. A one-time build fee of $199 applies.
- M5 Pro, 64 GB memory, 1 TB SSD: $319 a month as a runner or $349 as an agent Mac. The most memory a Mac mini can hold. Pre-order, live in about a week. A one-time build fee of $249 applies.
For CI and for agents that use cloud models, the M6 is the one to pick. Choose an M5 Pro only if you plan to run large open models on the Mac itself. Memory is what limits those.
Renting versus buying
Apple sells the base M6 Mac mini for $899 in the US. That was the price on apple.com in September 2026. It equals a little more than 6 months of our runner plan. So if you need a Mac for years and have somewhere to put it, buying is cheaper.
Renting wins in other cases. You need the Mac today. You need it for a few months. Or you have no wired, always-on spot for it. A Mac at home also needs someone to reboot it when it hangs. Our guide to renting a Mac mini for CI goes through that math for build machines.
How fast you can start
The M6 is stocked. After you pay, your Mac is ready in 1 to 4 hours. The M4 and M5 Pro tiers take about a week. You pay monthly, with no annual contract. You can cancel any time from the customer portal.
How you reach it
You connect over a private Tailscale network. You use SSH for the terminal and screen sharing for the desktop. There is no public SSH port. On the agent plan you can also open the desktop in a browser tab from the portal. The setup docs show each step.
Who should not rent from us
- You need a Mac for an hour or a day. Apple's license sets a 24-hour minimum for any lease, and we bill by the month.
- You need a static public IP, an SLA, or a choice of regions.
- You need a Mac Studio, a Mac Pro, Windows or a GPU server.
- You want a free trial. We do not offer one.
- Your use is not software development. A leased Mac is for developer services only, under Apple's license and our terms.
If you only build a few times a month, hosted macOS minutes may cost less. Our cost calculator shows where the line is. Otherwise, the pricing page has every tier and plan side by side.
