Rent a Mac

Rent an M6 Mac mini

You can rent an M6 Mac mini from MacRun for $139 a month, with the first month at $69. It is the base model Apple released in August 2026, with a 12-core CPU and 16 GB of memory. In our test it ran a clean Xcode build in 86 seconds. A GitHub-hosted macOS runner took 183 seconds for the same build.

What Apple released

Apple announced the Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro on August 25, 2026, in its newsroom. Pre-orders opened that day. Availability began on September 22. The M6 model starts at $899 in the US.

These are the base model specs from Apple's Mac mini tech specs page, read in October 2026.

  • 12-core CPU: 2 super cores, 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores.
  • 12-core GPU.
  • 16 GB unified memory, configurable to 24 GB or 32 GB.
  • 153 GB/s memory bandwidth on the 16 GB models. Apple lists 170 GB/s for the 24 GB and 32 GB configurations.
  • 256 GB SSD, configurable up to 2 TB.
  • Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, and a 2.5Gb Ethernet port.
  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Apple compares the M6 with the M4 in the same announcement. It claims 40 percent faster CPU performance and up to 4x faster AI performance. It also claims 2x faster storage and graphics. Those are Apple's numbers, not ours.

What we measured

We built the Wikipedia iOS app with Xcode 26.6 and took the median of three runs. The other machine was a GitHub-hosted macos-26 runner. That is a virtual M2 Pro with 5 cores and 14 GB of memory.

  • Clean build: 86 seconds on the M6, 183 seconds on the hosted runner.
  • A typical CI job after a small change: 27 seconds on a warm M6, 269 seconds on a fresh hosted runner.

The second number matters more day to day. A dedicated Mac keeps its caches between jobs. A hosted runner starts empty every time. The full method is in our M6 benchmark post.

The M6 we rent

Our M6 units are the base configuration: 16 GB memory and a 256 GB SSD. They run macOS 27. Xcode 26.6 is installed with first launch done, and the iOS 26.5 simulator runtime is ready. The GitHub Actions runner software is preinstalled. You get sudo and Homebrew, so you can add any Xcode version you need.

Apple ships the M6 with a 2.5Gb Ethernet port. In our rack each Mac is on wired gigabit ethernet, in our private facility in New Jersey.

M6 vs M4 vs M5 Pro

We rent all three. Here is how they line up today.

  • M6, 16 GB memory, 256 GB SSD: $139 a month as a runner or $169 as an agent Mac. In stock, ready in 1 to 4 hours. The first month is $69 or $84.
  • M4, 16 GB memory, 256 GB SSD: $119 a month as a runner or $149 as an agent Mac. The previous base chip, at the lowest price. Pre-order, live in about a week. Nothing is charged until it is live.
  • M5 Pro, 48 GB memory, 1 TB SSD: $269 a month as a runner or $299 as an agent Mac. For agents that also run open models locally. Pre-order, live in about a week. A one-time build fee of $199 applies.
  • M5 Pro, 64 GB memory, 1 TB SSD: $319 a month as a runner or $349 as an agent Mac. The most memory a Mac mini can hold. Pre-order, live in about a week. A one-time build fee of $249 applies.

The M6 has two more CPU cores than the 10-core M4. For Xcode builds that is the main difference you will feel. The M4 costs less but takes about a week to set up.

The M5 Pro is a different class of machine. Apple lists 307 GB/s of memory bandwidth and up to 64 GB of memory. That matters for running open models on the Mac itself. It does not matter much for builds or for agents that call a cloud model.

Is 16 GB enough?

For building a typical iOS app, yes. Our benchmark ran on 16 GB. It is also enough for Claude Code or Codex, because the model runs on the provider's servers. The Mac only runs the tools, the build and the tests.

It is not enough for large local models. We no longer offer an M6 with 32 GB. If you need more memory, choose an M5 Pro tier.

Who should not rent an M6 from us

  • You need several Xcode versions and many simulator runtimes at once. 256 GB fills up. The M5 Pro tiers have 1 TB.
  • You want to run 30B or larger open models locally.
  • You need a static IP, an SLA, or a region outside the US East Coast.
  • You only build a few times a month. Hosted minutes may cost less.

Buying an M6 costs about the same as 6 months of rent. If you need one for years, buying may be the better deal. If you need it this week, see the pricing page or read about renting a Mac mini for CI.
